Markdown to PDF, HTML or Word
🔒 Your files never leave your device
Paste Markdown on the left, watch it format on the right, then take it away as a Word document, a single self-contained HTML file, or a PDF.
or drop one here — you can also just paste below
Nothing on the left yet. Paste some Markdown or open a .md file and the formatted result appears here as you type.
Which format do you want?
Word (.docx) is a real Word document, not HTML with a .doc extension — the trick some converters use, which makes Word show a warning when you open the file. Headings become Word heading styles, so the navigation pane and automatic tables of contents work. Lists become real numbered and bulleted lists you can continue typing into. Tables become Word tables. This is the one to pick when someone else needs to edit the document, or when you have been asked for "a Word file".
HTML gives you one file with the stylesheet embedded in it. No folder of assets, no web fonts, nothing fetched when it opens — you can email it, put it on a USB stick, or open it on a machine with no internet and it looks the same. It is a good choice for sharing a document with someone who should not have to install anything.
PDF opens your browser's print dialog, where you choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. That is a deliberate choice rather than a shortcut: your browser's print engine produces selectable text, proper page breaks, working links and correct fonts for every language, and it does so without this page shipping a PDF library. A JavaScript PDF generator would give you a larger download and worse output.
What is supported
GitHub Flavored Markdown: headings, bold, italic, inline code, fenced code blocks, ordered and unordered lists including nesting, task lists, tables with column alignment, blockquotes, horizontal rules, links and images.
What does not survive, and why
The tool tells you when either of these applies to your document rather than letting you find out after you open the file.
Images in the Word file
A Markdown image is a path or a URL — . To put that picture inside a .docx, the tool would have to go and fetch the bytes, and it will not do that: reading files off your disk or making requests on your behalf is exactly what this site promises not to do. The HTML and PDF outputs still show images, because those keep the reference and your browser resolves it.
Raw HTML in the Word file
Markdown lets you drop HTML into the source, and a Word document has no way to represent it. HTML and PDF output keep it; the Word file skips it and the tool counts how many blocks that affected.
About the HTML in your Markdown
Any HTML in the source is sanitised before it reaches the preview. Ordinary markup that Markdown authors use — <details>, <kbd>,, tables — comes through untouched. Scripts, event handlers andjavascript: links are removed.
This matters when the file is not yours. Opening a .md someone sent you in a converter that renders it as-is would run whatever they put in it. The exported HTML file is sanitised too, so it is safe to forward.
Questions
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The parsing, the preview, the Word file and the HTML file are all produced by JavaScript running on your own machine. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and everything still works.
Can I open a .md file instead of pasting?
Yes — use the button at the top or drag the file onto it. The file is read in your browser, and the 5 MB limit is there to keep the live preview responsive.
Why does the Word file use Calibri?
It is Word's own default, so the document looks native and prints predictably. Code uses Consolas for the same reason. You can restyle everything in Word once it is open.
Does it handle Chinese and other non-Latin text?
Yes, throughout — in the preview, the Word file, the HTML and the PDF.
